Ring the Bells

Ring the Bells is a Christmas hymn and was written by Harry Bollback.

Harry met Jesus at the age of 16 at Bible Camp, thanks to the influence of his Sunday School teacher. In December 1941, Harry met one of the most influential and important figures in his life, Word of Life Founder, Jack Wyrtzen.

Harry's strong sense of patriotism led to his desire to serve his country, so after graduating high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. In WWII he fought in the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa and was sent to China as part of a peacekeeping force before returning to the United States when the war ended.

After returning home Harry resumed his friendship with Jack Wyrtzen and serving with Word of Life. In 1946, Harry met the love of his life, Mildred "Millie" Winkler. Millie had also begun working for Word of Life and she and Harry immediately hit it off. Harry and Millie were married for 72 years until her death on January 7, 2021.

In 1949, Harry and Millie's daughter, Linda, was born, and in 1950 Harry graduated from the Philadelphia School of the Bible. Later that year they were accepted as missionaries with the South American Indian Mission, and in December they sailed from New York Harbor to share the Gospel with unreached tribal people in Brazil.

Harry and Millie's son, Larry, was born in 1952 and later that year they were joined by one of Harry's dearest friends, Harold Reimer, serving in the interior of Brazil.

After a furlough in 1955, during which Elizabeth, Harry and Millie's third child, was born, the Bollbacks returned to Brazil this time to start the ministry of Word of Life camps. In Atibaia, Harry and Harold Reimer began a Word of Life Youth Camp, followed shortly by a Word of Life Inn for adults. In 1958, Harry and Millie's youngest daughter, Suely, was born.

After returning to the United States in 1969, Harry became the Co-Director of Word of Life and started the International Ministries outreach. Thanks to the blessing of God and the humble service of a "simple kid from Brooklyn", Word of Life is now in 81 countries around the world.

Harry also had an incredible love for music and wrote many Christian songs and musicals that were performed to millions of people around the world, sharing the good news of the Gospel.

Harry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to thousands around the world. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Frair; son, Larry and his wife Cindi; his daughter, Elizabeth and her husband John (Nelson); his youngest daughter, Suely and her husband Brad (Cecil); his son-in-law Rick Warken; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He joins his beloved wife, Millie (1927-2021), and his eldest daughter Linda (Warken, 1949-2016) in the arms of his Heavenly Father.

Harry was a proud member of VFW Post 5513 and American Legion Post 964 in Chestertown. He will be buried with full military honors along with his wife, Millie, on Tuesday, January 19 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Saratoga Springs. A memorial service is being planned for Harry at Word of Life on a date yet to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bollback Missionary Fund at Word of Life. Harry and Millie created this fund to bless and help missionaries, and it has been used for decades to fill financial gaps in Word of Life ministries around the world.

Lyrics:

Ring the bells, ring the bells, let the whole world know,
Christ was born in Bethlehem many years ago.
Born to die that man might live, came to earth new life to give,
Born of Mary, born so low, many years ago.
God the Father gave His Son, gave His own beloved One,
To the wicked sinful earth, to bring mankind His love, new birth.

Chorus
Ring the bells, ring the bells,
Let the whole world know
Christ the Savior lives today
As He did so long ago!

Ring the bells, ring the bells, what a glorious morn!
Men and angels worship Him, singing, Christ is born!
Born to die on Calvary, born to set His people free,
God Himself in human form, tell it! Christ is born.
He has left His royal throne, He has come to claim His own,
Christ the Lord has come to earth, go spread the news of Jesus' birth.

Here We Go a-Caroling/Here We Go a-Wassailing

"Here We Come A-Caroling" (or "Here We Come A-Wassailing") is a traditional English Christmas carol and New Year song, dating from at least the mid 19th century, but possibly much older. The old English song refers to "wassailing", or singing carols door to door wishing good health, while the a- is an archaic intensifying prefix.

Here We Come A-wassailing (or Here We Come A-caroling), also known as Here We Come A-Christmasing, Wassail Song and by many other names, is a traditional English Christmas carol and New Year song, typically sung whilst wassailing, or singing carols, wishing good health and exchanging gifts door to door. It is listed as number 209 in the Roud Folk Song Index. Gower Wassail and Gloucestershire Wassail are similar wassailing songs.

The song dates from at least the mid 19th century, but is probably much older. The a- in "a-wassailing" is an archaic intensifying prefix; compare A-Hunting We Will Go and lyrics to The Twelve Days of Christmas (e.g., "Six geese a-laying").

According to Readers Digest; "the Christmas spirit often made the rich a little more generous than usual, and bands of beggars and orphans used to dance their way through the snowy streets of England, offering to sing good cheer and to tell good fortune if the householder would give them a drink from his wassail bowl or a penny or a pork pie or, let them stand for a few minutes beside the warmth of his hearth. The wassail bowl itself was a hearty combination of hot ale or beer, apples, spices and mead, just alcoholic enough to warm tingling toes and fingers of the singers."

In 1949, the Welsh folk singer Phil Tanner sang a minor-key variant called "Wassail Song" and generally known as "Gower Wassail", which was popularised by various folk revival groups.

A variant is "Here We Come A-Christmasing". It replaces the word "wassail" with "Christmas".

There are also other variants (often, but not always, sung by Americans), wherein the first verse is sung "Here we come a-caroling" and it is titled so. Often in this version, the third verse (directly after the first refrain [see lyrics]) is removed, along with the refrain that follows it, but this depends on which version is being used. This version also often has the second line of the chorus "And a merry Christmas too" or "And to you glad tidings too", instead of "And to you your wassail too".

Another variant is entitled "We've Been a While-A-Wandering" and "Yorkshire Wassail Song".

Lyrics:

Here we come a-caroling
Among the leaves so green
Here we come a-wandering
So fair to be seen

Chorus:
Love and joy come to you
And to you glad Christmas too
And God bless you and send you
A Happy New Year
And God send you a Happy New Year!

We are not daily beggars
That beg from door to door
But we are neighbors' children
Whom you have seen before

[Chorus]

We have got a little purse
Of stretching leather skin
We want a little of your money
To line it well within

[Chorus]

God bless the master of this house
Likewise the mistress too
And all the little children

That round the table go

[Chorus]

Love Came Down at Christmas

Love Came Down at Christmas is a choral folk anthem written by Roger Copeland. Drawing on familiar faith stories from the Old Testament in the Bible, this text by J. Pa ul Williams lists only a few of the many before us who have walked by faith an d encourages us to do the same. Joel Raney s original melody, set in minor mod e with steadfast rhythm and progressive modulations between each of the verses , escalates the excitement up to the very end.

Lyrics

1.Love came down at Christmas,
Love, all love divine;
Love came down at Christmas,
And I know, I know that love is mine.

2.Love was in a manger,
In a cattle stall,
Ans while angels hovered,
Love was born to be the King of all.

Bridge:
The shepherds heard the choirs of angels,
The wise men saw a distant light;
They found the wonder they were searching for,
And worshipped Him that holy night.

3.Love came down at Christmas,
Love, all love divine;
Love came down at Christmas,
And I know, I know that love is mine.

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas

"White Christmas" is an Irving Berlin song reminiscing about an old-fashioned Christmas setting. The song was written by Berlin for the musical film Holiday Inn, released in 1942. The composition won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 15th Academy Awards.

Since its release, "White Christmas" has been covered by multiple artists, with the version sung by Bing Crosby being the world's best-selling single (in terms of sales of physical media) with estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide. When the figures for other versions of the song are added to Crosby's, sales of the song exceed 100 million.

Accounts vary as to when and where Berlin wrote the song. One story is that he wrote it in 1940, in warm La Quinta, California, while staying at the La Quinta Hotel, a frequent Hollywood retreat also favored by writer-director-producer Frank Capra, although the Arizona Biltmore also claims the song was written there. He often stayed up all night writing. One day he told his secretary, "I want you to take down a song I wrote over the weekend. Not only is it the best song I ever wrote, it's the best song anybody ever wrote."

Lyrics:
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the tree tops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow, oh, the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the tree tops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white.

Lyrics
The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty
Let all the Earth rejoice
All the Earth rejoice
He wraps himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
Trembles at His voice
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the end
The Godhead Three in One
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Name above all names
Worthy of our praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
You're the name above all names
You are worthy of our praise
And my heart will sing
How great is our God
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
The whole world sings, the whole world sings
How great is our God
How great is our God
How great, how great is our God

Go Tell It On The Mountain

"Go Tell It on the Mountain" is an African-American spiritual song, compiled by John Wesley Work Jr., dating back to at least 1865, that has been sung and recorded by many gospel and secular performers. It is considered a Christmas carol as its original lyrics celebrate the Nativity of Jesus:

Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;
go tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born.

An alternate final line omits the reference to the birth of Christ, instead declaring that "Jesus Christ is Lord".

In 1963, the musical team Peter, Paul and Mary, along with their musical director Milt Okun, adapted and rewrote "Go Tell It on the Mountain" as "Tell It on the Mountain", their lyrics referring specifically to: Exodus and using the phrase "Let my people go", but referring implicitly to the civil rights struggle of the early 1960s. This version became a moderately successful single for them (US No. 33 pop, 1964).

According to religious studies professor and civil rights historian Charles Marsh, it was African-American civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer who combined this song with the spiritual "Go Down Moses", taking the last line of the chorus, "let my people go" and substituting it in the chorus of "Go Tell It on the Mountain". Marsh does not document this claim, but notes that Hamer was highly active in civil rights work beginning in the 1950s, and that the use of the Exodus story and the singing of spirituals played a central role in her activities.

A version was also recorded by the Wailers with Peter Tosh on lead vocal. This version contains no reference to the birth of Christ and the line is replaced by "Set my people free".  The song appears on The Best of The Wailers album (recorded 1970 and released in 1971).[citation needed]

Little Big Town's 2006 non-album single version reached No. 35 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

Bob Dylan references the song in his 2020 song "Goodbye Jimmy Reed," which contains the lyric, "For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory / Go tell it on the mountain, go tell the real story".

Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born!

While shepherds kept their watching
O'er silent flocks by night
Behold throughout the heavens
There shone a holy light

Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born!

The shepherds feared and trembled
When lo! Above the Earth
Rang out the angel chorus
That hailed our Savior's birth

Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born!

Down in a lowly manger
Our humble Christ was born

And God sent us salvation
That blessed Christmas morn

Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born!

Angels We Have Heard On High

"Angels We Have Heard on High" is a Christmas carol to the hymn tune "Gloria" from a traditional French song of unknown origin called Les Anges dans nos campagnes, with paraphrased English lyrics by James Chadwick. The song's subject is the birth of Jesus Christ as narrated in the Gospel of Luke, specifically the scene in which shepherds outside Bethlehem encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising the newborn child.

This Chirstmas carol is generally sung to the hymn tune "Gloria", a traditional French carol as arranged by Edward Shippen Barnes. Its most memorable feature is its chorus, Gloria in excelsis Deo, where the "o" of "Gloria" is fluidly sustained through 16 notes of a rising and falling melismatic melodic sequence.

In England, the words of James Montgomery's "Angels from the Realms of Glory" are usually sung to this tune, with the "Gloria in excelsis Deo" refrain text replacing Montgomery's. It is from this usage that the tune sometimes is known as "Iris", the name of Montgomery's newspaper.

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains
Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly, sweetly through the night
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their brief delight
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing,
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Yeah
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Angels we have heard
Angels we have heard on high
Angels we have heard, oh
Angels we have heard on high
Angels we have heard on high
Angels we have heard on high
In excelsis Deo

White Is In The Winter Night

Today's song is written and performed by Enya. To download and print go here. I have arranged this music score with chords in the right hand and simple accompaniment for the left hand. "White Is in the Winter Night" is a promotional single by Irish musician Enya, the second to be taken from the album And Winter Came.... Enya performed the song on Live! with Regis and Kelly.(here) This tune was described by Enya's producer Nicky Ryan on the Irish musician's website as "the kind of song you could hear at the Proms with everyone joining in, it has that kind of Christmassy vibe."(here)

Lyrics

Have you seen the mistletoe
It fills the night with kisses
Have you seen the bright blue star
It fills your heart with wishes
Have you seen the candlelight
It shines from every window
Have you seen the moon above
It lights the sky in silver

Green is in the mistletoe
And red is in the holly
Silver in the stars above
That shine on everybody
Gold is in the candlelight
And crimson in the embers
White is in the winter night
That everyone remembers

Have you heard the boys outside
When all the girls are skating
Have you heard their sweet hearts cry
For all this time they're waiting

Green is in the mistletoe
And red is in the holly
Silver in the stars above
That shine on everybody
Gold is in the candlelight
And crimson in the embers
White is in the winter night
That everyone remembers

Have you seen the children playing
Tiny hands are frozen
Have you seen them hurry home
When suddenly its snowing

Green is in the mistletoe
And red is in the holly
Silver in the stars above
That shine on everybody
Gold is in the candlelight
And crimson in the embers
White is in the winter night
That everyone remembers

Have you heard that bells are ringing
Ringing out their story
Have you heard the choir singing
Glory, glory glory

We Three Kings of Orient Are

Today's Christmas carol can be downloaded here. For more information look here and here. Enjoy!

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to reign

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Prayer and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes of life of gathering gloom
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Glorious now behold Him arise
King and God and Sacrifice
Alleluia, Alleluia
Earth to heav'n replies

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
