Making a Difference
Won’t You, Lord, take a look at our hands
Ev’rything we have, use it for Your plan?
Won’t You, Lord, take a look at our hearts
Mold it, refine it as You set us apart?
We want to run to the altar and catch the fire,
To stand in the gap between the living and the dead.
Give us a heart of compassion for a world w/o vision.
We will make a difference bringing hope to our land.
Won’t You, Lord.
We will answer the call to build this church w/o walls.
Let Your glory be shown, bring salvation to the lost.
This hymn was written by Edith McNeill. Not much is known about Edith McNeill (1920-2014), except that she was a long-time member of the Church of the Redeemer (Episcopal) in Houston, Texas, and that her husband was a professor at the University of Texas. The Church of the Redeemer, founded in the 1920s in a depressed inner city area, went through a charismatic renewal in the early 1960s under the leadership of pastor Graham Pulkingham and his wife Betty, a composer and musician who was the spark behind many worship songs that arose out of that community, some of which are still sung today, including songs like “The Steadfast Love of the Lord” and “I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light” by Kathleen Thomerson. The worship life of this congregation was very influential, and the Pulkinghams with a group of members left Redeemer in the early 1970s to begin an international ministry known as the Community of Celebration.

When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder is an 1893 hymn with words and music by James Milton Black. It is one of the most popular Christian hymns of all time. The song was inspired by the idea of The Book of Life mentioned in the Bible, and by the absence of a child in Black's Sunday school class when the attendance was taken. The idea of someone's being not in attendance in heaven haunted Black, and after visiting the child's home and calling on a doctor to attend her for pneumonia, he went home and wrote the song after not finding one on a similar topic in his hymn collection. The song's lyrics were first published in a collection titled Songs of the Soul and the song has since been translated into at least 14 languages and sung all over the world in a variety of Christian denominations. There are more than 500 versions available on such sites as Amazon, recorded by various artists such as Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Jim Nabors, and Willie Nelson, to the traditional tune. The lyrics have also been set to new music by contemporary gospel artists such as Doris Johnson. In 1945, BritishPrime MinisterWinston Churchill created a stir in the British press when he quoted the hymn in response to a question about when the Big Three were going to meet; stated the Winnipeg Free Press: "Mr. Churchill, in one of his somewhat puckish moods, replied that he did not know, but, he added irreverently, 'When the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there.'" The British press expressed surprise at Churchill, an Anglican, being familiar with a hymn more associated with Methodism, Presbyterianism, and other "chapel" denominations or the revival meetings of Dwight L. Moody and Ira D. Sankey or R. A. Torrey and Charles McCallon Alexander, whereas the Free Press speculated that Churchill might well have heard the "catchy" tune in the street meetings held by the Salvation Army. He might also have remembered the lyrics from the 1941 movie Sergeant York.
When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more, And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair; When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore, And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
Refrain: When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
On that bright and *cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise, [*sabbath] And the glory of His resurrection share; When His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies, And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun, Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care; Then when all of life is over, and our work on earth is done, And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
Today's chorus is 'Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart' written by Henry Smith. The song was his only published worship song out of 300 unpublished compositions. It was written after Smith had trouble finding work after graduating from university. He also suffered from a degenerative condition that eventually left himlegally blind. While at his church inWilliamsburg, Virginia, his pastor inspired him with a reference to howJesusmade himself poor to make others rich through him. When Smith started performing the song in church, a visitingUnited States Militaryofficer took the song to Europe, from where its popularity spread. In 1986,Integrity Musicpublished the song on theirHosanna! Musicaudio cassette but credited it as "author unknown". Later that year,Don Moenreleased the song on hisGive Thanksalbum.Smith contacted Integrity to inform them of his authorship and they said that they had been attempting to track him down. As a result, Smith signed a writer-publisher agreement with Integrity fordistribution rightsto the song.
The lyrics have been erroneously credited to Moen rather than Smith in some media reports. In the United States, the song was used by a Catholic news website to focus on returning a Christian focus to Thanksgiving celebrations. The song has also been cited by Christian authors to be used for thanksgiving and giving thanks to God.

LYRICS
Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One; give thanks, because he’s given Jesus Christ, his Son. Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One; give thanks, because he’s given Jesus Christ, his Son.
And now let the weak say ‘I am strong’, let the poor say ‘I am rich’, because of what the Lord has done for us; and now let the weak say ‘I am strong’, let the poor say ‘I am rich’, because of what the Lord has done for us. Give thanks…
Today's song entitled "You Are My Sunshine" was written on January 30, 1940, "You Are My Sunshine" was copyrighted by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell and published by Southern Music Publishing Co., Inc. of New York. The pair recorded the song on February 5, 1940, at Decca Studios in New York.
Two groups originally from the Atlanta area were the first to record “You Are My Sunshine,” both during the latter half of 1939. First of these was the Pine Ridge Boys, an old-time, close-harmony, two-guitars-with-yodels duo made up of Doug Spivey and Marvin Taylor; they recorded it for Bluebird (B-8263) on August 22.
“You Are My Sunshine” is often called “heartwarming”, but a close look at the lyrics after the first verse shows that they're better described as “heartbreaking”. It's about unrequited love. This song has enjoyed enduring popularity for nine decades.

Lyrics
You are my sunshine My only sunshine You make me happy When skies are gray You'll never know, dear How much I love you Please don't take My sunshine away
The other night, dear As I lay sleeping I dreamed I held you In my arms When I awoke, dear I was mistaken So I hung my head and I cried
You are my sunshine My only sunshine You make me happy When skies are gray You'll never know, dear How much I love you Please don't take My sunshine away
The song Enemy by Imagine Dragons, in a press release, the band's vocalist Dan Reynolds explained: "'Enemy' is about reconciling internal conflict in a world where it feels impossible to trust even yourself. In Arcane, two sisters' lives take them on different paths and leads to a division that threatens to tear an entire city apart.
Imagine Dragons brought their Las Vegas-tinged brand of theatrical pop rock to The Tonight Show Tuesday with a performance of “Enemy.” The standalone single is the theme song for the Netflix animated series Arcane, which is inspired by the massively popular multiplayer online video game, League of Legends.

Look out for yourself
I wake up to the sounds of the silence that allows For my mind to run around with my ear up to the ground I'm searching to behold the stories that are told When my back is to the world that was smiling when I turned
Tell you, you're the greatest But once you turn, they hate us
Oh, the misery Everybody wants to be my enemy Spare the sympathy Everybody wants to be my enemy
Look out for yourself My enemy
Look out for yourself But I'm ready
Your words up on the wall as you're praying for my fall And the laughter in the halls And the names that I've been called I stack it in my mind and I'm waiting for the time When I show you what it's like to be words spit in a mic
Tell you, you're the greatest But once you turn, they hate us (ha)
Oh, the misery Everybody wants to be my enemy Spare the sympathy Everybody wants to be my enemy
Look out for yourself My enemy (yeah)
Look out for yourself
Uh, look, okay I'm hoping that somebody pray for me I'm praying that somebody hope for me I'm staying where nobody 'posed to be Posted, being a wreck of emotions Ready to go whenever, just let me know The road is long, so put the pedal into the floor The enemy on my trail, my energy unavailable I'ma tell 'em, "Hasta luego"
They wanna plot on my trot to the top I've been outta shape, thinkin' out the box I'm an astronaut, I blasted off the planet rock To cause catastrophe and it matters more because I had it And I had a thought about wreaking havoc on an opposition, kinda shockin' They want a static with precision, I'm automatic quarterback I ain't talking sacking pack it, pack it up, I don't panic, batter-batter up Who the baddest? It don't matter 'cause we at ya throat
Everybody wants to be my enemy Spare the sympathy Everybody wants to be my enemy Oh, the misery Everybody wants to be my enemy Spare the sympathy Everybody wants to be my enemy (I swear)
Pray it away, I swear, I never be a saint, no way My enemy Pray it away, I swear, I never be a saint Look out for yourself
Selamat Hari Raya (Happy Eid Song) is written and composed by Indra Shahrir Ismail. This one is for the child in every one of us. As a young boy in the 1960s, music arranger Indra Shahrir Ismail recorded this song about Hari Raya as seen through the eyes of a child. Written by his brother, the late composer Iskandar Ismail, it’s a song about seeking forgiveness from one’s elders, visiting friends of different races, wearing new clothes and shoes, enjoying great food—and of course, rejoicing that it’s a school holiday. A catchy number that has endured through the generations.

Lyrics
They say oh my God I see the way you shine Take your hand, my dear, and place them both in mine You know you stopped me dead while I was passing by And now I beg to see you dance just one more time
Ooh I see you, see you, see you every time And oh my I, I, I like your style You, you make me, make me, make me wanna cry And now I beg to see you dance just one more time
So they say Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh I've never seen anybody do the things you do before They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
I said oh my God I see you walking by Take my hands, my dear, and look me in my eyes Just like a monkey I've been dancing my whole life But you just beg to see me dance just one more time
Ooh I see you, see you, see you every time And oh my I, I like your style You, you make me, make me, make me wanna cry And now I beg to see you dance just one more time
So they say Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh I've never seen anybody do the things you do before They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
They say Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh I've never seen anybody do the things you do before They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
Ooh Woah-oh, woah-oh, oh Ooh Ah ah, ah
They say Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh I've never seen anybody do the things you do before They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
They say Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh I've never seen anybody do the things you do before They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay And when you're done I'll make you do it all again All again
The melody was also used in an Irish folk song called "My Love Nell". The lyrics of "My Love Nell" tell the story of a young man who courts a girl but loses her when she emigrates to America. The only real similarity with "Star of the County Down" is that Nell too comes from County Down. This may have inspired MacGarvey to place the heroine of his new song in Down as well. MacGarvey was from Donegal.
"The Star of the County Down" uses a tight rhyme scheme. Each stanza is a double quatrain, and the first and third lines of each quatrain have an internal rhyme on the second and fourth feet: [aa]b[cc]b. The refrain is a single quatrain with the same rhyming pattern.
The song is sung from the point of view of a young man who chances to meet a charming lady by the name of Rose (or Rosie) McCann, referred to as the "star of the County Down". From a brief encounter the writer's infatuation grows until, by the end of the ballad, he imagines himself marrying the girl.

Lyrics:
Near Banbridge town, in the County Down One morning last July Down a boreen green came a sweet colleen And she smiled as she passed me by She looked so sweet from her two bare feet To the sheen of her nut brown hair Such a winsome elf, I'm ashamed of myself For the see of her standing there
From Bantry Bay of the Derry's Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair colleen That I met in the County Down
As she onward sped, sure I scratched my head And I looked with a feelin' rare And I says, says I, to a passer-by "Who's the maid with the nut brown hair?" Well he looked at me and he said to me "That's the gem of Ireland's crown Young Rosie McCann from the banks of the Bann She's the star of the County Down"
From Bantry Bay of the Derry's Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair colleen That I met in the County Down
She had soft brown eyes with a look so shy And a smile like the rose in June And she sang so sweet, what a lovely treat As she lilted an Irish tune At the Lammas dance, I was in a trance As she whirled with the lads of the town And my heart did race just to see the face Of the star of the County Down
From Bantry Bay of the Derry's Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair colleen That I met in the County Down
At the Harvest Fair she'll be surely there So I'll dress in my Sunday clothes With my shoes shone bright and my hat cocked right For a smile from my nut brown rose No pipe I'll smoke, no horse I'll yoke 'Til my plough was a rust colour brown And a smiling bride by my own fireside Sits the star of the County Down
From Bantry Bay of the Derry's Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair colleen That I met in the County Down
From Bantry Bay of the Derry's Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair colleen That I met in the County Down
